Description
Christmas is in the air with this delightful balloon-shaped tin, filled with a creamy, chocolate fudge. Decorated with sun and scroll motifs inspired by the Montgolfier brothers’ historic hot air balloon of 1783; the invention and first-manned flight of which caused a national craze in France, with balloon-backed chairs, mantel clocks and many other souvenirs all commemorating the aerial feat. By 1836, British aeronaut Charles Green (1785–1870) achieved a record 480-mile flight from Vauxhall Gardens in London to Weilburg, now part of Germany; the record standing until the early 20th century.
