Hand-painted mild-steel duck ornament recalling the rustic decoy ducks carved by rural craftsmen in the 19th century. Originally used as functional tools for wildfowling, these wooden forms developed patinas cherished by collectors and gradually came to be appreciated as vernacular folk art. It's not often I say this, but here was something which looked even better than it did in the catalogue. Very well made, and now happily ensconced in our back garden looking after a trio of little ducklings which have been there for ages! Not cheap, but very good value for the workmanship involved and the quality.
