Twin Owls Crystal Brooch

Owl enamel and crystal-set costume brooch based on examples from the mid-1950s by French jeweller Marcel Boucher. Boucher trained as a goldsmith at Cartier before establishing his own costume jewellery house in New York in 1937. The 1950s pieces for which he is particularly celebrated reflect the decade's exuberant return to femininity and ornament after the austerities of the war years, combining delicate floral and figural forms with brilliant enamelwork in a palette of jewel-bright colour.
