Description
Printmaking' is a sort of magic very captivating to many minds', attributed to Allen W. Seaby (1867-1953)
Greetings cards capturing evocative views and soothing scenery in six characterful colour woodcuts, c.1910-1930s. Now in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the intricate designs and saturated blocks of radiant colour reproduce woodblock prints by leading European and American artists. Includes ‘Two Swans’, c.1930 by British artist Allen W. Seaby (1867-1953); ‘A Lochranza Croft’, c.1920-30, by Scottish artist Helen G. Stevenson (fl.1920-30); ‘Bungalow with Flowers’, c.1920, by German printmaker Helene Mass (1871-1955); ‘Seaside Landscape’, c.1910-15, by American artist Elizabeth Colwell (1881-1954); and ‘A View’, c.1916, by Carl Thiemann (1881-1966), a Bohemian artist and member of the Vienna Secession. A fashionable art form, woodcuts drew upon the Arts & Crafts movement's handmade philosophy while also being inspired by the printmakers of Japan, whose art was being discovered by European and American artists in the early 20th century. Exquisite scenes and blank for your own message; the cards are ideal for marking occasions throughout the year.
Made exclusively for Museum Selection.
