Description
Elegant greetings cards celebrating the canals, people and architecture of Venice. Reproducing two exquisite Venetian views or ‘vedute’ from by the Venetian artist known as Canaletto (1697-1768): ‘The Bucentaur's Return to the Pier by the Palazzo Ducale’, c.1727-29, and ‘The Grand Canal with the Rialto Bridge and the Fondaco dei Tedeschi’ attributed to Canaletto’s Workshop, c.1707-50. Appropriately nicknamed ‘Caneletto’, meaning ‘Little Canal’, after his father’s surname of Canal; the artist painted ‘en plein air’ becoming particularly popular with English collectors and Grand Tourists. Intricate and detailed, Canaletto’s views are noted for the quality of light and water effects but also capture the bustle of daily life on the city’s canals and in the city’s squares. Blank for your own message, the cards are a beautiful expression to send for occasions throughout the year.
