PRODUCT DETAILS
Description
Greetings cards which reproduce a Japanese-inspired design by celebrated French ceramicist and glassmaker Amédée de Caranza (1840-1912) for the firm Vieillard & Cie, Bordeaux c.1875-85. Now in the collection of the Smithsonian, the design mixes birds-of-paradise, stylised cherry blossom, known as ‘sakura’ in Japan, and a striking watery, marbled background in the style of the Japanese suminagashi technique, meaning ‘floating ink’. Glistening gold foil highlights the flowers, feathers and branches of this fantastical design adding a sumptuous effect. Blank for your own message, the cards make a smart and memorable way to send spring greetings.

Made exclusively for Museum Selection.

I enjoyed the bright, unusual colours and design. It would help if what birds they are was listed on the back. (This would involve some research!) I shall use one card as an unusual and exotic Valentine card for someone who has just returned from East Asia and who was impressed by the birds.
