PRODUCT DETAILS
Description
Luxurious greetings cards with dainty flowers and glistening gold foil details highlighting the stylised, vegetal swags of a richly embroidered, 19th century-Florentine altar frontal, now in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago. The design’s rich ornament and sweeping motifs became typical of Florentine papers in the 19th century, themselves an evolution of the design tradition of decorative flourishes in Renaissance manuscript borders by such Italian masters as Lorenzo Monaco (c.1370-c.1424) and Bartolomeo Sanvito (1433-1518). Details of similar ‘Italian patterns’ were recorded in Owen Jones’s (1809-74) ‘Grammar of Ornament’, 1856, which collected examples of the best of decorative design observed on the designer’s travels. The cards are blank for your own message and make a sumptuous way to send your greetings to loved ones near and far.

Made exclusively for Museum Selection.

Love these cards. Exactly what I hoped for. The colour and gilding are sharp and bright, just the right size for a quick catch up note made special.
