Description
The Royal Meteorological Society

Dramatic, dynamic and dazzling: weather-watchers will be enthralled by this sumptuously illustrated collection of nearly 200 award-winning images of global weather phenomena and effects. Showcasing a selection of powerful images from the Weather Photographer of the Year competition 2016-2021; the prestigious contest judged by experts at the Society for meteorological, technical and artistic merit. Published in association with the Natural History Museum, the images mix work by 97 photographers from 29 countries. From dramatic arcus clouds over the Croatian coast, a double rainbow over Stonehenge, and purple-hued mammatus cloud above Germany; to lightning strikes at Uluru in Australia, jewel-like blue ice on the black sands of Diamond Beach in Iceland, and a supercell tornado in Colorado: images showcase a wide variety of weather and its effects, be it fog, wind, drought, flooding, precipitation, waterspouts, ice, sandstorms, sunshine, or rainbows. Each image is accompanied by a caption, a short contextual note on the weather phenomenon captured, and details of the equipment used; the book includes a glossary and index of photographers to further explore the locations of the imagery. Accompanied by six essays exploring climate change and the dramatic experience of weather in human terms. Published in 2021, the book is printed with the original selling price of £25.
