Description
Christmas cards celebrating the intricate artistry of 15th and 16th-century tapestry. A traditional art form bringing colour and visual narratives to private homes and churches. These cards reproduce tender scenes from the Holy Story from the tapestry collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. The cards feature: the Annunciation, Visitation and Nativity from a tapestry depicting the life of the Virgin Mary, made in Alsace c.1500 and thought to have been used as an altar frontal; Flemish tapestries depicting the Annunciation and Nativity; and a Flemish tapestry panel of the Holy Family, made c.1500.
