Sweet Pea Bone China Mug

Pretty bone china mug decorated with sweet peas and finished with hand-applied gilding, inspired by floral wallpapers of the 19th century. Sweet peas, first introduced to Britain from Sicily in the late 17th century, became widely popular in Victorian gardens and floriography, where they symbolised gratitude and departure after a pleasant visit. The flower’s climbing tendrils and pastel blooms made it a favourite for designers and illustrators of the time.
