Two festive designs include a detail of holly (Ilex) by Caroline Maria Applebee (c.1799-1854) and mistletoe (Viscum album) by Ignaz Albrecht (1760-94), along with studies of yew and viburnum opulus, the guelder rose. Trimmed with a hessian-style ribbon, each cracker contains a snap, paper party hat, a joke and an RHS-themed fact. Once you and your guests have pulled the crackers, make sure to make a parting gift of the cracker’s paper: keep dry until spring and then simply tear into pieces, cover with soil and water to grow poppies, forget-me-nots, daisies and more blooms. Made by an 80-year-old and family-run printing business based in Leicester, the materials and packaging have been carefully selected to be sustainable and recyclable; you can even re-use the ribbon trim as a plant tie!
