Description
Set of two floral cotton tea towels printed with rose studies by Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759–1840), Belgian-born botanical illustrator celebrated as the greatest flower painter of his age. Redouté worked under the patronage of Marie Antoinette and later the Empress Joséphine, whose celebrated rose garden at Malmaison provided the subjects for his masterwork 'Les Roses', published between 1817 and 1824, a three-volume collection of 169 engravings that remains the most beautiful and botanically rigorous record of the rose ever produced. These pretty kitchen tea towels are lovely gift for any lover of the rose, a flower that has inspired artists, poets and gardeners for centuries. Printed in England.
