Pair of Mucha Tea Towels

Set of two Art Nouveau cotton tea towels featuring a print based on an 1898 lithographic poster by Alphonse Mucha (1860–1939), produced for F. Champenois of Paris. Mucha's posters represent the apogee of Art Nouveau graphic design, his sinuous, Byzantine-influenced compositions, in which young women with cascading hair are framed by elaborate floral and geometric borders, achieved an immediate and worldwide popularity that made his work the defining visual language of the Belle Époque. These tea towels are a lovely choice for any admirer of Art Nouveau, a movement whose celebration of beauty in everyday objects feels as relevant in the kitchen as it did in the galleries of fin-de-siècle Paris.
