Description
Fine china tea-for-one in a clever stacking design, the cup nesting neatly beneath the teapot for elegant, space-saving storage. It is decorated with 'Daffodil', an 1891 pattern by John Henry Dearle (1859–1932), who by this date had risen from apprentice to become William Morris's (1834–1896) principal design assistant at Morris & Co., going on to succeed him as chief designer following Morris's death in 1896. Dearle's florals, informed by close study of Morris's own naturalistic style, brought fresh, springlike patterns such as this into the firm's later output. This set's cheerful spring blooms make it a joyful gift for any tea lover or admirer of the Arts and Crafts tradition.
