Holly & The Ivy Jug

Festive-inspired earthenware jug bearing Spode's perennial 'Holly and the Ivy' design, which weaves antique illustration together with lyrics from the much-loved carol first published in its familiar form in 1911 by the folk-song collector Cecil Sharp (1859–1924), though its verses are believed to draw on far older English carolling traditions. Made in Britain in the great Staffordshire pottery tradition established by Josiah Spode (1733–1797) in the late eighteenth century, whose innovations in transfer-printing helped make decorated earthenware widely affordable, this jug is as practical for serving as it is pleasing on the festive table. Lovely for anyone who loves traditional festive kitchenware and classic Christmas pottery.
