Gervais Butterfly Lap Tray

Butterfly lap tray reproduces a plate by Paul Gervais (1816–79) from ‘Le Jardin des Plantes’ (1842), a landmark in zoological illustration. Gervais’s work exemplified the Victorian passion for cataloguing nature, combining scientific precision with decorative appeal. Made in Scotland from heat-resistant melamine with a wooden surround and cushioned fabric base,. Its design recalls an era when natural history permeated domestic life, inspiring objects that celebrated learning and beauty in equal measure.
