Spode Christmas tree divided porcelain dish decorated with the celebrated Christmas Tree pattern, first introduced by Spode in 1938. The design was created at a moment when the decorated Christmas tree, popularised in Britain by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's much-reproduced image gathered around their Windsor tree in 1848, had become the central domestic symbol of the British Christmas, and Spode's rich green tree, hung with gifts and candles against a white ground, captured this tradition in a form of timeless clarity. Now one of the most recognised and collected patterns in the history of British ceramics, the Christmas Tree design has been in continuous production for over eighty years.
