Chess Board Decanter & Glass Set

Chess board decanter and glass set echoing the playful 'conversation piece' glassware of the 1920s, here themed around the game of chess. Novelty and figural glassware enjoyed particular popularity in the interwar decades, when cocktail culture and home entertaining flourished and hosts sought decorative pieces designed as much to amuse and prompt conversation as to serve drinks, chess itself a game with a history stretching back over a thousand years and long a symbol of strategy, wit and refined leisure. The queen takes the form of an elegant decanter while four castle glasses stand on a chequered board beneath, a sociable centrepiece for the drinks cabinet that is sure to spark conversation. Ideal for any chess enthusiast, or for the host who loves an unusual drinks set, whether for Christmas or a special birthday.
