Botanic Garden Mug Duo

This practical pair of generous-sized mugs showcases the Botanic Garden design, created in 1972 by Susan Williams-Ellis (1918–2007), the daughter of Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, the architect behind the famous Italianate village of Portmeirion in North Wales. Susan Williams-Ellis drew on the tradition of botanical illustration, a discipline that flourished from the 16th century onwards as explorers, scientists and artists collaborated to document the plant world with extraordinary precision and beauty. Her designs take their inspiration from antique botanical prints and herbals, giving everyday tableware the quality of a curated natural history collection, and the pattern remains one of the most beloved in British ceramics.
