4 Teapot Spoons

Set of four petite silver-tone teaspoons, each topped with a different teapot finial, reflecting the whimsical ornamentation of the 19th century when novelty spoons and themed flatware were produced to celebrate the ritualised etiquette and social pleasure of afternoon tea. The Victorian afternoon tea table was a theatre of social performance in which every accessory contributed to the impression of refinement and taste, and the production of decorative novelty spoons, apostle spoons, caddy spoons, souvenir spoons and themed sets of every description, flourished from the mid-Victorian period as silver-plating technology made decorated metalware widely accessible. The teapot, as the presiding object of the tea ceremony, was a natural subject for this affectionate miniaturisation. One of each design.
