Veneto Mixed Pearl Necklace

Multicoloured freshwater pearl necklace, coloured to rich tones and interspersed with hematite beads and supplied with a gold-plated clasp. In an endless necklace design echoing those worn in 'Portrait of a Lady in a Green Dress', 1530, by the Italian Renaissance painter Bartolomeo Veneto (c.1480–1531), an artist celebrated for his richly detailed portraits of Venetian women, often adorned with fine jewellery that signalled both fashion and status. Pearls of this kind were treasured across Renaissance Italy, prized for their soft lustre and their long-standing symbolic association with purity and refinement.
