Freshwater pearl, jade and lapis necklace with gold-plated spacer beads inspired by the colourings of a bejewelled girdle designed by Arts & Crafts embroiderer May Morris (1862–1938). May Morris, the younger daughter of William Morris, was a designer and craftswoman of exceptional ability who headed the embroidery department of Morris & Co. from the age of twenty-three, producing work of a delicacy and inventiveness that has long been overshadowed by her father's fame but is increasingly recognised as a major contribution to the Arts & Crafts movement in its own right.
