Countess Maria Pearl Necklace

Necklace in shell pearls in white and coloured to lilac, with hematite spacers and a sterling silver clasp. The design is inspired by the pearls worn by Maria Gunning, Countess of Coventry (1733–1760), in many of her portraits. A celebrated beauty of her day, she was said to believe that pearls enhanced her complexion, wearing them frequently to reflect both her fashionable taste and her status among the leading society figures of Georgian England. Lovely as a gift for any admirer of period jewellery and Georgian portraiture.
