Cloisonne & Jade Earrings

Richly decorated cloisonné earrings with jade bead and gold-plated hinged back hooks, celebrating the traditional Chinese technique which emerged in the 13th–14th centuries. These dainty drop earrings are designed with floral detailing in hues of blue, green, pink and gold-tone. Cloisonné reached its highest refinement in China during the Ming Dynasty, when imperial workshops produced vessels, censers and decorative objects of breathtaking complexity and brilliance, their surfaces dense with auspicious motifs in turquoise, cobalt, red and gold. The technique became so central to imperial culture that the Kangxi Emperor (r.1661–1722) established a dedicated cloisonné workshop among his palace factories, and the finest Qing-period pieces were considered fitting gifts between the courts of the world.
