Quartet of Champagne Glass Baubles

Set of four hand-painted and beaded glass baubles, recalling the exquisite blown-glass ornaments produced in nineteenth-century Germany, the birthplace of the glass Christmas decoration. The tradition began in the Thuringian town of Lauscha, where glassblowers had worked since the sixteenth century and, by the mid-1800s, began fashioning fruit- and nut-shaped ornaments for the tree, a craft later popularised across Britain and America once Prince Albert's German Christmas customs took hold. With two of each design, suspended on organza ribbon, this quartet brings a touch of that heritage glamour to the tree. Lovely for anyone who loves traditional festive craft.
