Description
Exquisitely hand-cast in iron with a verdigris finish, this handsome pair of cranes has been inspired by an original sculpture from the Meiji era in the late-19th century. Meiji Japan was an era that famously ushered in trade with Europe and the West following centuries of cultural isolation. The period allowed the arts to flourish, with craftsmen and artists alike responding to the increase in demand and need for vast expansion in production. Our Oriental Crane Sculpture reflects this transition and, symbolically, the crane is a mystical creature heralding good luck, prosperity and long life.
