Description

Charming hand-carved koi netsuke, synonymous with harmony and happiness. Traditionally closures for garments, netsuke evolved into a form of sculpture from the 17th century. Over time these miniature sculptures became much sought after collectables for display on shelves or stands. Depictions of koi in art are seen as a symbol for positive energy and abundance in Chinese culture called 'yu'.
