Yuan Patchwork Coat

Patchwork coat in rich copper tones with a mix of patterns recalling those produced during the Tang Dynasty, 618–907. The Tang period is widely regarded as a golden age of Chinese civilisation, and its textiles were among the most technically and artistically ambitious in the world, weavers produced sumptuous silk brocades incorporating motifs absorbed from Persia, Central Asia and the Byzantine world as luxury goods, ideas and artistic traditions flowed along the Silk Road in both directions. The interlocking patterns, confronted animals and rich copper and gold tones characteristic of Tang weaving found their way across Asia and the Islamic world, and their influence on decorative art has never entirely faded. The jacket is made from polyester and nylon with jacquard and chenille panels, and has a relaxed fit with a stand-up collar, full-length sleeves, side pockets and pleated side panels. It is fully lined. A bold and distinctive piece for those drawn to statement outerwear.
