Ottoman Velvet Jacket

Sumptuous burgundy red velvet jacket in a printed design recalling that Ottoman decorative tradition, cut in a relaxed fit with a collar, velvet-covered buttons, full-length sleeves and side seam pockets. Velvet was among the most prized textiles traded along the Silk Road, its lustrous pile a mark of wealth and status from Byzantium to Renaissance Europe, with nineteenth-century Ottoman weavers, particularly in the city of Bursa, becoming celebrated for bold, geometric 'yastik' cushion-cover designs that combined rich colour with striking pattern.
