Description
The distinctive design and patterning of this elegant velvet jacket with embellished floral embroidery echoes a heavily embroidered doublet worn by King Francis I in a portrait by Jean Clouet c.1572. Across Renaissance Europe, velvet was a costly fabric and would have been favoured the royalty of the period to visibly display wealth and power. As a patron of the arts and scholarship, humanist and knightly king, Francis I chose to be depicted in his portraiture wearing fine and lavishly embroidered fabrics to this end.

Rather duller colours than expected from the photo, and the background is black rather than dark blue as the picture suggested, but an attractive and easy to wear garment which will be useful for semi formal occasions.

Lovely jacket. However ordered size 10-12 but it was more like a size 16. Had to return this and could not get a replacement as they were out if stock.
