Arts & Crafts Reversible Jacket

Floral quilted reversible jacket with print inspired by Morris & Co., founded in 1861, defined the Arts and Crafts aesthetic with trailing florals such as 'Honeysuckle' and 'Pimpernel'. This lightly quilted cotton reversible jacket is crafted in multicolours on a buttermilk ground, reversing to green foliage, in a relaxed fit, edge-to-edge style with full-length sleeves and pockets. William Morris established his firm in direct opposition to the industrial mass production that he believed was degrading both the objects it made and the people who made them, recruiting painters, architects and craftsmen to design wallpapers, textiles, stained glass and furniture of uncompromising artistic quality. The sinuous, densely foliate patterns that became the firm's trademark drew on Morris's passionate study of medieval and Renaissance textiles, Persian carpets and the natural world observed with a botanist's precision, creating a visual language of extraordinary richness that remains as fresh and distinctive today as when it was first printed.
