Description

From Roman ‘panis bicoctus’ (meaning ‘twice-baked’) and sailor’s hard tack, through the proliferation of sweetened recipes in the 19th and 20th centuries which saw biscuits go from elite dainties to treats for the masses. A delectable history discusses many tea time favourites, from Garibaldi’s to digestives and Bourbons. Interspersed with appealing illustrations and historical recipes, including Cornish Fairings, Lebkuchen, and macaroons.
