A handsome slipcase-edition of ‘The Complete Grimm’s Fairy Tales’, in the acclaimed 1884 English translation by Margaret Hunt (1831-1912). 200 short stories and 10 ‘Children’s Legends’ mix familiar fairy tales, including ‘Rapunzel’, ‘Hansel and Gretel’, ‘The Bremen Town Musicians’, and ‘Cinderella’. As well as less well-known tales, such as ‘Hans the Hedgehog’ and ‘The Juniper-Tree’, plus darker stories such as ‘The Robber Bridegroom’. From witches and enchanted creatures to princesses, knights and giants, the stories mix light and shade in eternal themes of good versus evil. Originally published in German by academic folklorists Jacob (1785-1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786-1859) in 1812, the brothers revised and reworked their stories across the century, having found success with an edition in 1825 aimed at children. Today, many of the stories are considered too scary for younger readers but older readers will be fascinated by these folktale survivals in a classic translation. Presented in four cloth-bound volumes, the smart books can be stored neatly in a slipcase.
