Green Hands: a warm and wise novel following Land Girls Bee, Anne and Pauline as they adjust to a very different world and mode of life. From a windswept farm in remote, rural Scotland to a Northumberland dairy: authentic details capture the, often back-breaking, work, inconveniences and realities of 1940s farming as well as sketching the country characters, romances and friendships formed while keeping calm and carrying on.

Originally published in 1943; based upon the experiences of Margaret Hazel Watson (1921-2016), writing as Barbara Whitton, in the Land Army, First Aid Nursing Yeomanry and the Auxiliary Territorial Service.
