Description
A handsome, clothbound edition presents a fascinating facsimile of three illustrated profiles of Sir Edward Burne-Jones (1833-98), William Morris (1834-96) and Walter Crane (1845-1915). Originally published as separate essays in the pages of the London-based publication, ‘The Art Journal’, the three artist profiles were later published as a collection: ‘Great Masters of Decorative Art’, published in 1900. With contributions from the artist’s themselves and, in Crane’s case, self-penned, the collection gives a superb insight into the artists’ philosophies, methods and milieu. Illustrated throughout with rare drawings, cartoons and sketches by the artists themselves, plus colour plates. This book is beautiful, insightful and a rare survivor from the Pre-Raphaelite and Arts and Crafts era.
