A weird and wonderful anthology of 21 short stories inspired by the dark and strange in Celtic folklore from Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Brittany, Cornwall, and the Isle of Man; and including three long-lost Gaelic gems now translated into English. Carefully selected, each of the little-known tales reflect Celtic belief and mythology in imaginative, fantastic and spine-tingling telling's. Includes Robert Aickman’s (1914-81) terrifying supernatural story ‘The Fetch’, 1980, in which a ghostly being ‘fetches’ the living to the afterlife; Count Eric Stanislaus Stenbock’s (1860-95) eerie ‘Breton Legend’ from 1893, in which a boy meets a pack of were-creatures; and ‘Kerfol’, a ghost story from 1916 by Edith Wharton (1862-1937) in which ghostly dogs meet a grisly end. Spanning writings of the Celtic Revival in the 19th century, through to late-20th century tales steeped in the oral tradition of previous centuries.
