PRODUCT DETAILS
Description
Cotton blend socks with a peacock and foliage motif in multicoloured hues on a grey ground, based on Walter Crane's celebrated Fig and Peacock wallpaper design, first produced around 1895 by the renowned manufacturer Jeffrey & Co. and now in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum. Crane (1845-1915) was one of the most gifted and versatile British designers of the late 19th century , a close associate of William Morris, a distinguished illustrator of children's books and a leading figure of the Arts and Crafts movement. The peacock, with its spectacular tail and its long associations with beauty, pride and the Aesthetic Movement's love of the exotic, was a particularly popular subject for Crane's exuberant compositional gifts. A wonderful gift choice for any admirer of the Arts and Crafts movement.
