PRODUCT DETAILS
Description
Silk scarf delicately evoking a coloured lithograph of sweet peas from a gardening manual of 1896, capturing the rich, varied colours of this most fragrant of cottage garden flowers on a light lilac ground. The sweet pea, introduced to Britain in the late 17th century and brought to a peak of variety and refinement by Edwardian breeders, became one of the most painted and illustrated flowers of the late Victorian and Edwardian period, its ruffled, butterfly-like blooms lending themselves naturally to the delicate colour work of botanical lithography. With hand-rolled hems; the design will be paler on the reverse. Soft lilac tones and sweet pea detail give the scarf a delicate cottage-garden charm.

Made exclusively for Museum Selection.
