Paisley Scarf

Red and silver silk jacquard scarf with tassell ends celebrating the paisley motif, a design that journeyed from Persian and Indian textiles to become a hallmark of British fashion in the 19th century. Paisley patterns, woven in Scottish mills, reflected the Victorian appetite for exoticism and the influence of global trade on domestic style. The motif’s teardrop shape, known as ‘boteh’, symbolised fertility and eternity in its Eastern origins. By the mid-1800s, paisley adorned shawls, dresses, and accessories, embraced by tastemakers including Queen Victoria.
