Indienne Silk Scarf

Silk scarf with a stylised floral print in mixed hues of red, ochre, green and blue, recalling the textiles traded along the ancient Silk Road, where silk itself was among the most prized commodities carried between East and West. Such patterns draw on the Indienne tradition, the richly printed cottons and silks that reached Europe from India via these historic trade routes from the seventeenth century onward, their exotic colour and pattern proving hugely influential on Western textile design for centuries to come. In habotai silk with hand-rolled hems, the design is paler on the reverse.
