Chrysanthemum Silk Scarf

Pink, purple and green silk scarf with hand-rolled hems reinterpreting ‘Chrysanthemum’, 1877, a wallpaper design by William Morris held in the Gallery's collection. This version was printed by Arthur Sanderson & Sons Ltd., who acquired the original printing blocks from Morris & Co. when they closed in 1940. William Morris’s chrysanthemum design reflects the late 19th-century revival of handcrafted pattern and natural form. Design may be paler on the reverse.
