Charming cotton tote bag printed with a design based on 'More Books in the Home!', a 1920 poster by the American illustrator Jessie Willcox Smith (1863–1935), created for the early American children's literacy movement. Smith was among the most celebrated illustrators of the American Golden Age of Illustration, known for her tender depictions of childhood that appeared widely in magazines and advertising of the period, and her work for children's reading campaigns reflected the growing early twentieth-century belief that a home filled with books nurtured a child's imagination and education alike. Printed in England, a lovely gift for any devoted reader or lover of vintage illustration.
