Floral Embellished Velvet Bag

Clutch bag with golden metallic floral embroidery embellished with beads, and finished with a metal-frame top and metal ball clasp. This striking decoration is inspired by a medallion from the mid-16th century created with a form of embroidery known as Or Nué. This is a form of goldwork involving couching gold threads with coloured threads to produce a painted-like picture. The technique was worked particularly in Belgium, France and the Netherlands in the Middle Ages, and embroiderers in Italy and Flanders then developed this technique to an impressive level of sophistication by the 16th century. Combined with rich navy velvet, this opulent decoration makes for a dramatic evening or occasion handbag.
