Celtic Leather Plaited Handbag

Brown leather handbag with a plaited decoration echoing the interlaced borders found in Celtic manuscripts such as the 7th-century Book of Durrow. The Book of Durrow, one of the earliest surviving fully decorated Gospel manuscripts, was produced in a Hiberno-Saxon scriptorium in the mid-7th century, its carpet pages of interlaced knotwork representing one of the supreme achievements of early medieval decorative art, in which abstract geometric pattern was used as a vehicle for spiritual as well as aesthetic meaning. With magnetic popper closure, inner pouches and zipped pockets, zip pocket on reverse, lined interior and adjustable straps.
