Cafe Terrace at Night Tote Bag

Printed tote bag reproducing 'Café Terrace at Night', painted in Arles in September 1888 by Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890), one of the artist's first works to set a starry sky against glowing lamplight and to experiment with painting directly outdoors after dark. Van Gogh described the challenge and thrill of capturing night scenes lit by gas lamps in letters to his brother Theo, the painting's warm yellows and deep blues among the earliest instances of his fascination with the contrast between artificial light and darkness, a theme he would return to famously the following year in 'The Starry Night'.
