Black botanical tapestry bag recalling studies by Flemish illustrator Joris Hoefnagel (1542–1601). In a compact polyester style with a zip closure opening to three inner pouches and inner zip pocket, front zip pocket, lined with faux leather trim, top handle and adjustable straps. Hoefnagel occupies a unique place in the history of natural history art as the last great illuminator working in the medieval manuscript tradition and simultaneously one of the first modern naturalists to depict insects, flowers and small creatures that would define scientific illustration in subsequent centuries. Working at the intersection of art and science, patronage and curiosity, Hoefnagel's images of beetles, butterflies, shells and blossoms against dark grounds have an intensity and beauty that continue to inspire designers and naturalists alike.
