Description

Reproduction of a small faience hippo discovered in a shaft associated with the upper Egyptian tomb chapel of the Steward Senbi, 'William' is considered amongst the finest of funerary furnishings. Dating from c.1961 BC - c.1878 BC, his endearing appearance has earned him the role of informal mascot for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York where he has been on display since 1917.
