The Lowry, Salford
‘I don't care tuppence for what they do in London in the art world… All I am concerned with is doing my own thing in my own way.. as well as I can’, L. S. Lowry speaking in 1968.

The story of the life and work of L.S. Lowry (1887-1976) told through a vivid and expertly chosen selection of over 35 of his paintings and drawings, plus photographs, from the collection of The Lowry in Salford. All chosen by Claire Stewart, the Curator of The Lowry Collection, the book highlight the artist's range, techniques and love of the views and people of the North East and North West of England. The museum, which holds the largest collection of works by the artist in the world, spans the artist’s output, from his iconic urban crowd-scenes, capturing life in Pendlebury and Salford in the 1950s and 60s, to lyrical seascapes, characterful portraits and countryside views of County Durham. Illustrated with colourful reproductions of the highlighted artworks and with an expert commentary.
