William Morris News from Nowhere

Victoria and Albert Museum
A handsome facsimile of the Kelmscott Press edition of William Morris’s (1834-96) seminal novel from 1890. A radical blend of utopian socialism – in which capitalism, private property and industry have been overthrown – and time travel. The narrator awakes to find himself transported to England in the 21st century: a pastoral paradise, populated with citizens in 14th century costume, open-air markets and where money, prisons and divorce have been abolished. The novel caused a stir when it was first published in instalments in the ‘Commonweal’; Morris then oversaw the publication of 300 copies at his newly founded Kelmscott Press. This edition is a facsimile of the copy held in the National Art Library at the Victoria and Albert Museum. With an introduction by Dr Rowan Williams. Includes original floriated letters within the text.

Hardback, 305 pages, 1 black and white illustration.
8¼” x 5¾”.
