Watches

A collection of watches inspired by original timepieces and period decorative motifs. Watches evolved from portable spring driven clocks, which first appeared in 15th-century Europe, often worn as pendants. By the 17th century men began to wear watches in pockets and so their form evolved into the typical pocket watch shape which continued to be used into the early 20th century, although many improvements were made to their mechanical functioning. The concept of the wristwatch can be traced back to the 16th century, Elizabeth I received a wristwatch from Robert Dudley in 1571, described as an 'arm watch', but they were not generally worn until the 19th century when they were often marketed as bracelets for women.
